10:20-10:40 Welcome remark & on schedule

11:10-11:50 News to Global Sulphur Cap (Mr Hyun-Tae Kim; Senior Surveyor, Technology Business Support Team)
IMO, at its 70th MEPC meeting held on 20 October 2016, has decided to regulate the sulphur content of fuel used on ships to be 0.5% or less from 2020. Therefore, the maritime industry is faced with immediate challenges which are the compliance with the strengthened global SOx regulations in the upcoming 2020 as well as the economical maintenance and the operation of ships due to financial pressure.
Hence, it is essential that ship-owners identify the advantages and disadvantages of available options that can adequately respond to the stricter regulations and appropriately analyze the characteristics of ships in operation so that decision on optimal SOx emission reduction method for their vessels could be made.
In this seminar, we will introduce the latest trends on related industries including IMO, refineries, shipping companies and shipyards, and briefly overview the market after 2020 for decision supports of ship operators.

11:50-13:00 Lunch & Coffee

13:00-13:40 Status of Korean shipbuilding industry (Mr Jik Lee; Business Development Manager, International Business Development)
It has been nothing new to see articles in the media that many shipyards are in dire straits due to chronic overcapacity and lack of newbuilding orders. And there is no exception for shipyards in Korea to this difficulty. In this session, Mr LEE will introduce you various innovative measures initiated by Korean shipyards in order to maintain its status as most-preferred shipbuilding destination by the shipowners.

13:40-14:20 Cybersecurity (Dr. Jong-Woo Ahn; Senior Surveyor, Cybersecurity Team)
As the ship became networked and digitalized, the cybersecurity risk on the shipping companies and the ships has increased. The cyber security risk may give extensive damage to life, property, business and so on. For managing this risk continuously, Korean Register established the certification system to ensure the cyber security of the companies and the ships. The guideline for achieving Korean Register’s cyber security certification will be presented in the seminar.

14:20-15:30 Bulk Carrier New design (Mr Yoon-Jung Hur; Senior Surveyor, Technology Business Support Team)
Two key factors that are to be considered in the design of Bulk carrier could be fuel efficiency and H-CSR. Bulk trade has been increased in recent years, and it is expected that newbuilding orders for a bulk carrier will be increased significantly in the near future. Accordingly, many shipyards are making various efforts to develop competitive designs in preparation for newbuilding orders for bulk carrier in the future. In this connection, KR has also made an agreement of Joint development project with Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Korea and optimized the design of fuel efficiency and hull structure for KAMSARMAX bulk carrier. So, the results will be shared during the seminar.
