Invitation

New ideas and projects are needed to make shipping greener and safer. The Baltic Sea Region, the Maritime Cluster Norddeutschland, Expert Group Maritime Safety and the GMT invite companies, researchers and authorities to a creative day on 6th March 2024 to Lübeck.

The goal of this workshop held in Germany is to identify a handful of concrete project ideas that can improve the maritime safety and / or clean shipping in the Baltic Sea and further. Similar workshops have been arranged and will be arranged in other EU Baltic Sea states.

Is this for you? We believe it is for organizations which like to innovate in cooperation with others across the Baltic Sea Region: companies, industry, academia, research institutes, authorities. Your ideas can find a larger platform, a bigger support and implementation on an international level.  We encourage organizations who would be interested in leading or participating in innovation projects targeting the goals below to sign up.
The workshop will be focused on generating ideas for future research and innovation projects that will meet one or several of the following goals and underlying actions:

In the field of Maritime Safety and Security:
•    Providing reliable navigational conditions to the Baltic Sea
•    Developing winter navigation to meet future challenges
•    To be a forerunner in digitalization and automation
•    Ensure accurate preparedness and response for maritime accidents and security issues

In the field of Clean Shipping:
•    support measures reducing emissions from shipping including digitalization;
•    support research on emerging thematic challenges related to clean shipping and its impact on the environment and wildlife in the Baltic Sea; and
•    support development of shore-side facilities to enhance clean shipping measures including infrastructure for alternative fuels.

Preliminary agenda
•    Setting the scene: goals of the workshop and overview of financing opportunities
•    Workshop part 1 – identifying current challenges generating project ideas
•    Workshop part 2 – developing the most promising project ideas in more detail
•    Summarizing results and planning the next steps

The workshop will be held in English.

We look forward to welcome you in Lübeck, to an exciting workshop and to your interesting project ideas.
