Five Northern German countries – one maritime cluster! The Maritime Cluster Northern Germany (MCN) promotes and develops cooperations in the Northern German maritime industry. It creates platforms so that stakeholders are able to interact with each other and it also promotes interfaces with other industries.
FZK is a joint cenral institution of Leibniz Universität Hannover and Technische Universität Braunschweig and runs the Large Wave Flume (Großer Wellenkanal, GWK), wich is one of the largest experimental facilities of its kind world wide. With 300 m length, 5 m width, 7 m depth and wave heights up to more than 2 m GWK offers optimal test conditions for applied and basic research in the fields of coastal engineering and maritime technologies.

With its scientific expertise and the uniqu facility Large Wave Flume (Großer Wellenkanal, GWK) FZK is an outstanding partner for companies and scientific institutes, who are active in the coastal and maritime sector.
The membership in the cluster shall help to further disseminate the competences of FZK and to generate new opportunities for cooperation.
