Five Northern German countries – one maritime cluster! The Maritime Cluster Northern Germany (MCN) promotes and develops cooperations in the Northern German maritime industry. It creates platforms so that stakeholders are able to interact with each other and it also promotes interfaces with other industries.
Maritime expertise has a tradition at Hochschule Bremen with its roots from the founding of "Bremen School of Navigation" in year 1799. The teaching activity in the school of marine engineering and shipbuilding commenced in 1895. Hochschule Bremen has a diversified maritime activities in education and research at present. Among others, the sustainable use of the sea as transport mode and resource is an important challenge for technology, business and society.

Hochschule Bremen emphasizes on application and technology-oriented researches, supplement and expansion of basic research through application and technology-related components in shipbuilding technology and protection of maritime environment and cooperation with maritime transport companies, among others.
