This talk presents the Ship Operations Model being developed under Project SeaThrive, which simulates vessel operations, fuel consumption, and emissions across ship types using real-world AIS data. The model delivers a data-driven view of the performance of energy systems for fuels such as ammonia, methanol, and hydrogen, and can be tailored for specific vessels. We'll walk through how the model works, the kind of operational data it draws on, and where there's scope for operators to shape and benefit from the analysis as it develops.

Total Cost of Ship Ownership Model: Life-Cycle Cost Implications of Alternative Fuels

This short talk will present early developments from Project SeaThrive’s model development for the calculation of total cost of ship ownership when using alternative fuels. The aim of the model is to quantify the full techno-economic performance and environmental impacts across established scenarios examined in the project. The assessment integrates capital and operational cost modelling with lifecycle analysis (well-to-wake) and policy context, enabling comparison of fuels and technologies on both cost and sustainability grounds.

Maritime Fuel Compliance-Cost Tool: From Regulation to Price Signal

The presentation introduces the tool and demonstrates how it provides fuel developers and ship operators with a transparent, regulation-based view of the price signals driving the transition to sustainable marine fuels. It compares the key regulatory frameworks, FuelEU Maritime, the EU ETS, and the IMO Net-Zero Framework, and shows how their technical requirements and economic penalties translate into costs per tonne of fuel and per tonne of CO₂. In addition, it explores the underlying calculation engine, illustrating how compliance costs are derived from individual components and examines market mechanisms such as the surplus-unit market, linking pricing dynamics to fuel availability. Last but not least, it demonstrates how changes in carbon pricing and other parameters affect compliance costs.
