World shipping handles 90% of global goods transport and is responsible for around 3% of global CO2 emissions. In this context, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the European Maritime Safety Organization (EMSA) have adopted binding CO2 reduction targets. This sends a strong signal to shipyards, shipping companies, energy suppliers, engine manufacturers, classification societies and the supply industry to invest even faster and more heavily in alternative propulsion technologies and green fuels in the future.
On the occasion of the established world’s leading trade fair for the shipping industry, SMM in Hamburg, NOW GmbH is presenting selected maritime demonstration projects with alternative propulsion systems and fuels that have received funding from the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV). Guests include Claudia Müller (Federal Government Coordinator for the Maritime Industry and for Tourism), Achim Wehrmann (BMDV), Kurt-Christoph von Knobelsdorff (NOW GmbH), Bingbing Song (IMO), Ragnar Christenson and Jonathan Tylle (Meyer Werft), and Dr. Ralf Sören Marquardt (VSM).
