The objective of the Brest Demo Day is to present the innovative functionalities of the prototype port infrastructure (Port S-100) already installed in Brest port and ENSM, the shared situational picture including real time data and drones on S-100 electronic charts and to discuss future developments.

The OVERHEAT project

The OVERHEAT project, funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 program, focuses on the use of innovative digital tools for the prevention and management of incidents at sea. The project covers from specification to prototyping and test of three core components:

  • The digital land-sea information exchange infrastructure: exploiting the new S-100 digital navigation standards developed by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) and landsea data exchange services,
  • Fusion of dynamic information - wind, waves, currents, water level, surrounding traffic, drone images – in the navigation terminals to provide an all-in-one access to navigational conditions shared between the teams on land and at sea
  • IoT-sensor based fire detection of containers on the weather deck for early fire detection
  • Use of drones/UAVs, provision of live pictures of the situation on board the vessel and support fire- detection, alert and rescue operations

BrestPort is the pilot site for the new developed digital information system Nav100, with a prototype VTMIS, data servers and IT infrastructure. The integration of real-time data into the S-100 digital navigational chart together with predictive models of the port environment produces a comprehensive digital twin of the port area. These real-time and forecast capabilities transform everyday port logistics and critical marine maneuvers:

  • Traffic management & ship calls optimization, combining dynamic datasets with AIS feeds
  • Offshore wind logistics for safe sea-land transfers of heavy offshore wind components.
  • Safe dry dock pilotage: supporting the pilotage of vessels into the dry docks.
  • Surveillance and threat detection: processing live video streams produced by drones/UAVs or installed cameras, alerts produced by gas detection units ("digital noses"), etc.
  • Simulation, record and replay of operations for training purposes or factual proves of evidence in
    case of accident
