ResC4EU: Resilient Supply Chains for Europe

Maritime Cluster Northern Germany (MCN) is a partner in the EU consortium “Resilient Supply Chains for Europe” (ResC4EU), which was launched in early 2024 and is being funded by the EU with 3 million euros over three years. ResC4EU aims to help European businesses – specifically small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) – to become more resilient and sustainable, and be able to adapt quickly to supply chain disruptions, by adopting advanced technologies. Disruptions have occurred, for example, due to the closure of the Suez Canal, the Ukraine conflict, or floods.

“In recent years, resilience has proven to be a significant challenge for the maritime industry, along with energy security. With ResC4EU, we are therefore addressing a highly relevant topic for the industry,” says Oliver Malmström, project manager at MCN. “The results of this project are intended to provide valuable support to businesses in Europe. I am pleased that we are part of this endeavour and can contribute to strengthening resilience in the industry.”

The project will create an open space for international collaboration, and provide models and tools that can assist enterprises in detecting and anticipating disruptions in their supply chains. Tailored support and training programmes for SMEs are planned as part of the ResC4EU Net-Zero Academies.

Another focus will be on exploring opportunities for cooperation and building alliances between traditional SMEs that need to implement advanced technologies, and technology-driven SMEs that already provide innovative solutions for more resilient and sustainable processes.

ResC4EU will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the needs, risks, disruptions, challenges and opportunities for SMEs, and strengthen the resilience of supply chains in various European industrial sectors – including mobility, transport and automotive, retail, social economy, the textile industry, tourism, aerospace and defence, renewable energy, energy-intensive industries, electronics, digital, construction, agri-food, health, and the cultural and creative industries.

The ResC4EU consortium comprises six of Europe’s foremost industry associations and clusters, a cluster and innovation management specialist (SME), a tech-savvy SME, and two research organisations. The project is coordinated by the German industry association Composites United e.V.
